ECHO CHAMBER
Henrique Hermes & Tyler Rexeisen
SEPTEMBER 24-28 2026
NEW YORK, NY
IN PARTNERSHIP WITH COMPLEX
Complex presents Echo Chamber, a duo exhibition featuring Tyler Rexeisen and
Henrique Hermes, otherwise known as “T-Rex Global” and “Bondoso Bandido.”
Curated by Luis Cano and Asher Koondel, the exhibition brings together the two visual artists to examine repetition as both a formal and cultural strategy, exploring how recurring imagery builds lasting recognition.
In Echo Chamber, Rexeisen and Hermes share a common factor across their works: repetition of found figures, faces, and scenes that evolve into visual forms. However, they dramatically emphasize how these motifs repeat, accumulate, and build off one another. Across the diptychs on view, each composition holds its form while introducing subtle visual variations.
Hermes, known for his works featuring nostalgic imagery of characters paired with
satirical phrases, brings a series that revisits motifs from his earlier practice. Alongside him, Rexeisen pulls together his signature female figures and reconstructs their faces through his color palette. Together, both artists assert a recognizable aesthetic language, demonstrating how recurring motifs can evolve while remaining deeply connected to their respective practices.
Within the gallery, each work is accompanied by a companion piece of identical
dimensions, replicated but altered. The pairing acts as a metaphor for how these
artists have developed their identities through recognizable symbols that recur
across their bodies of work. At the end of the gallery hangs a single collaborative
painting done by both artists, disrupting the even quantity and uniformity of the
diptychs. This layout turns the space into a literal echo chamber, where the works
on either side slowly fade out into one piece, just as an echo does, growing softer,
until it disappears into silence.
